Hi everyone.....this is mary cigarettes here

This song was written after my time living in New York City.
it's an amazing city ...but it changes you....
When you work there, the learning curves are steep and fast. i love that city, but it was so fast and it drained a little country boy like me.

When i got home to ireland,i had to reflect on my time in that city....the things i had done right, and the things i did wrong...I was on my own with this....
There was no one to guide me through a profound comedown like that.. I had to take it on the chin and grow from it....

I'm going back to New York City next week to see friends who live there...
i am VERY nervous...scared even....
For me,that city will be like seeing an old lover with whom i have history .

With the music, i tried to produce something very retro...
very 1960's...The ballads in those days were much more intense and a lot less 'processed', unlike so many of today's. I'm thinking Gene Pitney...Long John Baldry...Glen Campbell......classic old school songwriting techniques...
and I tried to make the sound very retro as well...
Hammond organ...brass sections and Jordanaire style backing vocals.
I tried to reflect this style in my visual performance too..
i'm actually channeling Dusty Springfield with all those exaggerated hand movements...polo neck sweaters and jackets totally out of the 1960's mod era.

It thrills me to see this music framed with Bobbie doing the visuals. She has such an eye for beautiful visions .....
