Spencer The Rover - trad. John Martyn's arrangement (cover #2) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 31, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
This is my second attempt at covering John Martyn's version of Spencer The Rover. The guitar is tuned to DADGAD with the capo on the 5th fret. I've been watching several videos of John doing this so I'm 99% sure that the chord are correct - John uses his thumb to fret the 6th string which I can't do because the neck of the Larrivee is quite wide. John also uses thumb and first finger. I use a rather mixed style sometimes playing a sort of 6 5 4 thumb pattern and sometime striking both the 6th and 5th strings, as John does. I think that there's only one person who can play guitar like John does - namely the big man himself, although I really enjoy watching Willie play John 's song as he comes very close. That's all a question of style and comfort.
Chords are 000200, 004(2)00, 224000, 555000, 444000and 222000.
You may notice an attempt by Boris towards the end at a bit audience participation - slight off-key.
