Santa Maria- from Guinea - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 08, 2009
DESCRIPTION:
Realized by Abou Sylla
Santa Maria is one of the newest songs from Guinea, developed in the early 1990's. Most music from Guinea is much, much older then that. The balafon part was realized/created by balafon master Abou Sylla, who came to Fredonia in May of 2009 to give a workshop. He also has taught one of our percussion professors prior to his visit. Santa Maria is named for the town the music was created in and has no religious conotation. It is performed on Djembe (there's 4 of them though you can't see them!), balafon (myself included) and 3 Doun Douns.

performed by students at SUNY Fredonia in a junior performance reciatal
