Mahroof Sharif, a name that has been perpetually used as one of Afghanistan's youngest most successful musical talents. Mahroof was born on September 29, 1990 in Queens, New York, USA. He currently lives in Long Island, New York, USA. He is studying to get his Bachelor of Science Degree in Audio Recording Technology at the famous Five Towns College for Music and Arts. He is also actively partaking in professional Indian classical music lessons by the renowned master of Indian classical music Dada Tapan Kanti Baida. He was also given the great privilege to have been guided and trained by the great Ustad Ghulam Abbas for tablas. He has also been studying western music and theory since the age of 10. He was one of the top percussionists in his high school and has competed in various New York state competitions such as NYSSMA. At age of 14 he acquired the Gold title in 2005 NYSSMA percussion solo competition in which over thousands of competitors from all over the New York state participated. Music has always been his passion. His biggest musical influences include his father(Rauf Sharif)who is also a great vocalist and his uncles Qudous Tabibzada who was the first to teach him Tablas and Basir Tabibzada who has been teaching Mahroof the theoretical and practical aspects of audio recording. He has also been a great supporter as well as the rest of Mahroof’s family. Mahroof professionally plays various instruments that include Keyboards, Piano, Harmonium, Tablas, Dholak, Zir Baghali, Xylophone, Marimba, Tympani,Drum Set(Jazz Band) and Percussions that are used in Latin and African Cultures such as Timbale, Conga, Bongo, Djembe and Talking Drums. Mahroof has been accompanying and/or producing music for some of Afghanistan's musical legends as well as new inspiring artists. To name a few, Ehsan Aman, Najim Nawabi, Said Omar, Ustad Eltaf Hussein, Mustafa And Timor Jalali, Naim Popal, Najib Siddiqi, Mokhtar Majid, Wahid Qasimi, Sediq Yakub, Shakib Zahedi, Habib Qaderi, Mozhdah Jamalzadah, Zekeria Sani, Asadullah Anil and many others. Mahroof is very enthusiastic to continue producing, composing, arranging and recording music for Afghan,Iranian,South Asian and American Artists while continuing his music studies at his university and professional music courses. He is a very friendly, approachable and humble person. He is very dedicated, hard working and creative.
