MADSABRE Biography

MC Sabre burst into the drum and base music scene in the late 90’s with SABRE printed on the reverse of his denim green jacket (he wasn’t yet MAD SABRE). His earlier influences were artists such as Michael Jackson, Shabba Ranks, Kriss Kross and then evolving to Skibbadee / Hyper Dee, Baseman etc. Spitting bars/lyrics double /triple time to drum and base was his passion and where he made his name in and around the local area.

SABRE then progressed to the house and garage scene in the early 2000’s, the art form eventually evolved into ‘Grime Music’ where ‘MAD Sabre’ and two of his musical companions (Real Stamina MC and DJ Spirit Fingers) formed a group called TDS (Triple da S) which later evolved into the Repertoire. The Repertoire crew enjoyed regular sets on pirate radio stations such as: ‘Silk Room, Whoa FM, Entice FM, 2G FM and a few others’ they performed at many clubs and events around London, Bristol and Leicester such as: ‘Buff Girls meets Hot boyz’, ‘Teen Emotionz’, ‘Sound Bar’, ‘Life part 2’ they were also booked alongside grime legends such as Wiley, Dizzie Rascal and Roll Deep.

The group also started their own night called ‘Booty Shake’ at club Cardak in Peckham which proved to be a financial success. In 2003 Sabre released a track entitled ‘Kung’ under his own independent record label, ‘Repertoire Recordings’ which quickly spread through the scene and became an underground classic! This track was from the Mix CD entitled ‘Repertoire 1.1’ which was followed up by ‘Beat Jakery volume 1’ both CD’s earned the group instant respect among the underground scene and became the catalyst for many groups/crews in South East London to step their game up.

Despite enjoying sets up and down the country with the Repertoire, Sabre began to get more involved with the technical side of music, attending various courses and working in a few studios as an engineer. He eventually set up his own studio ‘Repertoire Recordings’ in early 2005 where he began to record some solo projects over some well known hip-hop instrumentals. In late 2005 MAD Sabre released a solo mixtape entitled ‘a M.A.D Mixtape’ with tracks like ‘Everybody in School keep studying’ and ‘Toxic’ cemented MAD SABRE as a crew member but also able to produce impressive music as a solo artist within the Hip-hop/Rap genre. This project proved that Sabre had the ability to speak about some serious topics but delivered with a humorous twist. It also opened many doors for him in the hip-hop world and he was introduced to various up and coming producers such as Smooflow, Established, PDB, Novice and so on.

After this MAD Sabre returned to the studio to begin work on his next CD, and this time he had some original beats to work with. He produced a mixtape entitled ‘Are you nuts out here’ which produced hits such as ‘kiiikback’, ‘True stories’ and most notably –the Smooflow produced- ‘On the corner’. In 2006, he invaded Channel U and MTV Base and instantly became a household name known for delivering heartfelt lyrics over classic hip hop baselines. MAD SABRE began performing around the country and promoting his Mix CD which sold quite impressively for a solo release.

During 2007, MAD SABRE decided to live true to his music and giveback to the community with music workshops at local primary schools and helping younger artists to get their stuff together. He opened up the doors to Repertoire recordings and helped many artists and groups to get their CDs recorded and ready for sale. In early 2008 he returned back to the booth and released two mixtapes in partnership with mixtape DJ Ames entitled ‘On The Corner’ and a collaboration project with American artist Houston boy ‘We Really do this’.

In late 2008 MAD SABRE returned back to the studio to begin recording for his latest project… ‘Knowledge is POWER’ due for release late June 2009! The project features producers such as Tayong, Smooflow, PDB, Real Stam and my boy ROCK-D (Full Drive). The project promises to deliver true MAD SABRE and is anti mainstream in every aspect – just check the title! – when we asked Sabez about the project, his reply was “Rap seems to be real dark and ‘gangsterish’ at the moment, this CD will stick out like a sore thumb, there is just no denying it, I think it will be like a breath of fresh air paving the way for artists to be creative again” So there we have it, MAD SABRE on the verge of releasing his 4th solo project with an album in the pipeline.
