Mad Elephant was founded by Ritchie Monteiro vocals- guitar-piano, Michael Leonard bass, Chris Czarnik drums, and Rob Perry guitar-piano-vocals in 2002. Ritchie used to play solo acts in the Trenton area until Chris proposed the idea of starting a full band which in turn formed Mad Elephant. Michael Leonard (now a non combat humanitarian for the Navy, go Mike) originally played guitar in a band with Ritchie Monteiro, Matt Martin and David Asher named "Heather" in 2001. After the Heather breakup Ritchie and Mike would play open mic's together until meeting Chris and Rob. After 3 months with Mad Elephant, Mike left for duty and has since been stationed all over the world, but still continues to play music where ever he may be. Auditioning started for a new bass player and Tom Millet was a perfect fit. He continued to play bass for Mad Elephant until the separation. John Fennessy was a later addition adding keyboards and backing vocals. John met Ritchie at a mutual employment and connected musically and pretty much everything else. Katie Campo was a late addition after John left Mad Elephant to pursue film production. Katie added strings and classical style piano. Mad Elephant separated in February of 08 but some members are still together writing new music for a new band Jac, www.myspace.com/jacnj. Led by Ritchie Monteiro. The idea of Mad Elephant reforming isn't so far-fetched and new music will be underway as well. We appreciate all the fans that have supported us in the years that we've been together. Thanks.
