Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we're toying with the Mad Cat, from Guitar Tech. The Mad Cat is a super-versatile gain box that runs the gamut between sparkling boost and fire-breathing amp pulverizer. Drawing inspiration from a whole slew of tried and true dirt pedals over the years, the Mad Cat features both an op-amp and a group of transistors for some articulate heat on the front end that gives way to a high-gain punch in the face. The Meow knob unlocks all the versatility within the Mad Cat, with low settings bringing you an organic-sounding chime. Cranking up the Meow knob gets the Cat's claws out and provides a screaming, saturated fuzz tone that's for dirt addicts only. The Tone control is extremely powerful and provides a deep scoop, which is extremely interactive with the Meow control. Using both knbs in tandem yields an almost infinite amount of sweet spots that practically write the riffs for you. The Mad Cat is also extremely sensitive to your pickups, with all positions giving significantly different results for the discerning gearhead. The circuit design of the Mad Cat has been carefully tweaked and optimized for the lowest noise floor possible, with Guitar Tech pulling out all the stops to ensure your amp isn't pummeled with noise when you awaken the Cat. And just like all Guitar Tech pedals, the Mad Cat is made by hand in Brazil using premium components.
