Marche des Crosseurs, Louis Lutaud - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 02, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Club song

In 1901, the crosse society 'La Terreur' was founded in Ferrière-la-Grande, France. Louis Lutaud composed the Marche des Crosseurs in 1908, which he published amongst others in his book about the history of Ferrière-la-Grande, a village south-east of Maubeuge.

The mixture of a drinking song and a belligerent song is peculiar. It shows that societies like 'La Terreur' were also fairly patriotic. The songwriter/poet Lutaud probably refers to the French-German war in 1870-71, when the German army occupied a part of France, the Alsace-Lorraine region.

Crosseurs = Players of a French target or field game with stick and ball called 'Jeu de Crosse' ('Game of Crosse')
