Lady Luck, Resident Pigeon - Video

DESCRIPTION:
"Lady Luck" is the name we gave to a pigeon that I rescued from the car park at home. She was sat looking all fluffed up and upset, and I noticed she had a pink ring on her left leg. I spent a lot of my teenage years racing pigeons with my dad, so I thought, seeing as she had a ring on, she belonged to someone, so I would try and help her, rather than leave her to the cats and foxes.

She was only young and missing her tail, very thin, starving and thirsty. I put her in a cardboard box and the we went about getting what we needed to care for her, including food, water, LOTS of newspaper and lice spray. She was very tame and friendly, obviously used to being handled by a human, so we would keep her until she had regained strength, her tail crew back, then she could hopefully fly home. The ring on her leg had no number or means of identifying her owner, so I was hoping that she could remember where it was.

Over the week, on a daily basis, we cleared out the hallway and let her out of the crate that had become her temporary home. She didn't do to much and it was clearly evident she had very limited flight capabilities with no tail and I suspect not a lot of practice. But, she wasn't exactly content in the crate either, so we decided to try and find her a better home, where she would be better catered for.

Hounslow Urban Farm was an obvious choice for us as we visit there quite often, the animals and birds are well cared for and the staff are friendly. It's also quite close to us as well, giving the kids a chance to going an visit "Lady" sometime. We'd like to thank Hounslow Urban Farm for taking care of "Lady Luck" for us...

We made a donation to Hounslow Urban Farm to help them get their Tropical Zoo built, and would encourage others to do the same here: http://hounslowurbanfarm.co.uk/eco
