1992 Chrysler LeBaron rear brake job. stuck drums - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 19, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
1992 Chrysler LeBaron brake drums we're stuck hard. I took the tire off, put the lugnuts back on and leveled them with the top of the studs.being careful not to ruin threads I then whacked slightly with hammer. that got the ball rolling. before that the drum would not budge and the tire would not roll at all it was froze hard.
when you put the wheel back on, you will be pulling the studs back into place, so
keep going in the star pattern and make sure they are pulled back into place all the way. you'll be able to tell by the even look of the studs and threads sticking out.
once I saw the stud go in a bit and break the rust hold. i did it to all 5 lugs and kept whacking the drum with chisels and alone until my arm almost fell off.
then it was all cake after getting the stuck drum off. I should have recorded the drum removal part but was in a public parking lot, just had to get it fixed and get the hell out of there.after looking online for an exploded view or any help about what goes on in there I couldn't find anything on a 1992 LeBaron so I decided I would try and capture the process.I ended up not getting much on video as I was in a time crunch. my band had practice in dexter. i got the brakes done, got on my 1980 suzuki gs 450L and headed out with my bass strapped on my back.have squier bass and epiphone les paul costom guitar will travel!!!(10 miles) lol .
I added a song of mine at the end.I recorded it with a strat and marhall 8080 valvestate amp and an old drum machine my brother gave me in south carolina about 5 years ago.yes, it's cheezy to use my mechanic vids to push my songs, but I figure what the hell, how are these people going to find me and hear me?not up in the mountains in bum.... where i live that's for sure. so. listen and comment if you like. take care and good luck with your LeBaron or any car that needs brakes. they all work about the same.

I want to add this...the fat green springs with the shiny cap you see was the parts not in the autozone spring set.and it was those caps that broke when i got the drum to move. I had pulled/pounded the pin tip through the caps and that's what let the drum come off. the brakes came off parly with the drum.I pulled on the top of the hub and could see the size, position and location of the adjuster, then used the adjuster to bring the shoes in.I put a screwdriver in there pulling the adjuster off the wheel so i could turn the wheel with another screwdriver I said "pads" in the video.the girl at the counter corrected me. they are called "shoes". at first she said she didn't carry lebaron pads.so I asked if she had drums? she said yes..so I then asked if she had the pads that go inside?she said"you mean shoes?" I said yes. wwhheew!!I'm thick.
and out of practice..well, good luck with your brakes.and yes, penetrants do help.
don't forget the yellow spring for adjuster. I couldn't get the damn emergency cable back in the slot. the spring weas too strong and wiggly. i would need a 3rd hand.must be a spring compressor tool for that.I was in a rush also.and that's anoher recipe for disaster.
along with persistance and a few pinched fingers sometimes. I would have and did pull the shoes in with the adjuster, but without knowing where it was made it difficult and I don't like to get my head under any car really. I felt around for the adjuster wheel and could not find it the damn brake line is right in the way also.. unlike old chevy's it's a ways in there and there was nothing online to tell me where it was. so I reverted to caveman mode , beat that shit crazy and as frank mentioned.....I did it my way.lol
