DESCRIPTION: An Ingush lament taught to me by People’s Artist of Ingushetia Timur Dzeytov. It mirrors one of the storylines in Idris Bazorkin’s epic novel Dark Ages.
Although her heart belongs to a childhood sweetheart, a beautiful girl is being forced into marrying a rich suitor way out of her social league. She will not rebel though – that would dishonour her family. She is only allowed to express her anguish in a song.
My upcoming album Long Lost Home is inspired by Ingushetia, a fascinating republic in the Caucasus Mountains of Russia and the ancestral home of my Grandmother –who did rebel and married for love.
