Cleo “Cali” Cartel realized early in this fame game in order to truly make it meant loving God first and appreciating the individualism that makes her different and fresh. Possessing the gift to mesmerize audiences with her hood truths, life’s lessons and true feminine wisdom Ms. Cartel kept her balance and energy high by keeping her ear glued to the streets and her heart in the community with her people. Being a vocalist meant recognizing her responsibility to carry the torch of her ancestors that laid the foundation before her. Cleo Cartel wasn’t interested in sounding like the mainstream, diluted, polluted, mindless, sexually driven radio rotation that the corporate industry execs push radio to play. Instead of being fame and fortune driven, while her peers where hitting stages and open mics prematurely feeding the people dry and meaning-less material, Ms. Cartel decided to take a small hiatus from performing to horn in on her craft and what messages and issues she thought needed to be addressed. While everyone else was focusing on the war on terrorism, gas gouging, the Bush Administration, Foreign Policy, Platinum grills, spinning rims and Weapons of Mass destruction, Cleo Cartel decided to be a voice for the people that the world bank and the corporate world forgot about. “While the media, T.V and mainstream radio is pumping the masses with war stories, bad videos, reality shows and even worse (Cleo Cartel, laughs) bad fashion.” Cleo says. “The lack of creativity is haunting, it’s like if you are different, have an individual style and some mental content behind your hustle, your banned,” Cleo states! “It’s like some motha fucka pops up and says destroy truth, destroy different, destroy knowledge, destroy freedom, destroy strength, destroy progress,” Cleo says laughing. With that said, Cleo Cartel is present once again to rep for the forgotten ones. Releasing her much anticipated work entitled, “God Child” Ms. Cartel is clearly focused and on a mission. “God Child,”

Breathes a story of struggle, understanding, truth, love, strength, uplifting, solutions and freedom within the mind. A collage of passionate, jazzy, rare and vintage soul influenced pieces mixed with oral selections that bring messages to the masses that will resonate on minds for ever in time. The music and the messages will be a breath of fresh air to the fickle eared music head that loves individualisms and recognizable truths.
