Music, Maestro, Please - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Michael Law's Piccadilly Dance Orchestra perform Magidson and Wrubel's wistful 1938 song. Vocalists are Louise Cookman and Michael Law. The piano introduction is also played by Michael Law, with Martin Litton taking over for the rest of the song. The same musical arrangement (or parts of it) were used by the bands of Joe Loss, Carroll Gibbons and The Savoy Hotel Orpheans, Jack Hylton and Harry Leader (who made the song his signature tune). Of all of the recordings I've heard, Carroll Gibbon's Savoy record (with Anne Lenner's vocal) is my favourite, evoking in their special warmly sophisticated way, the melancholy of the lyric.
