ŁOSKOT is one of the most important avant-garde music groups in Poland. It's history is linked directly to the TotArt movement, which exploded in the end of 80's in TriCity (Pomerania, Northern Poland) and the "yass scene", being one of plenty atistisc offshoots, taking the best from this very vigorous movement. Yass artists gained momentum in the middle of 90's, to formalize/go mainstream around 1999/2000.

In the beginning the main aim of yass artists was to oppose the rigid monopole of traditional jazz music that has ruled for many years in Poland. This was done by destroying the very structure of an essential jazz composition and incorporating elements of concrete/fusion/noise approach - technically a lot of musicians were amateurs as well, which has influenced a core of their music. After the early years of political system transformation, bold - and then still ideological - creativity of yass artists evolved into more commercial and acceptable forms of music.

"Amariuch", released in 1998 by MultiKulti Project was one of the last great albums created by the yass scene. Soon afterwards most of the yass artists have flown away from their roots...
