Moose Walks Through Our Campsite - Rocky Mountain National Park - Tonahutu Creek Trail - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 24, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
We were camping at Sunrise Campsite on the Tonahutu Creek Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park. A few hours earlier we spotted this Moose and his friend in the lower meadow grazing. After taking some photos we went about our business. About 2 hours later, after dinner, my girlfriend, Kira, and I spotted the Moose's friend in the upper meadow next to our camp. About ten minutes after that, I was heating up some water for hot chocolate when suddenly I saw this guy's antlers pop up from behind a nearby tree. I immediately turned off the stove, then I jumped up and backed away trying to give him room. I positioned myself such that the tent was in between him and me, and then I calmly tried to talk to him so that he knew where I was and also didn't feel threatened. He clumsily tried to walk around our campsite to get to his friend in the upper meadow, but ended up not being able to find a way around. He looped back to our spot and then, after taking a quick look at me, managed to walk through. It was absolutely surreal seeing that moose so close up.
