'Little Johnny' features Lucy Sparkles on vocals and Alice Sparkles on harp and vocals. The song is about an imaginary dancing man and is great for reinforcing the feeling of pulse and of course for the development of imagination! You will also notice that the song is in a minor key and has a medieval feel which is unusual for children's music. We believe that exposing children to different styles of music is important for their musical development.

EYFS Aims:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (to develop self-awareness through naming and touching body parts), Communication & Language (to understand the meaning of words through pointing and to develop speaking, listening & attention through singing and the use of repetition), Mathematics (to identify a pattern and to demonstrate the language for measure e.g. "little" and position e.g. "on my head"), Literacy (to understand the meaning of words through pointing), Understanding of the World (to develop skills in technology through using YouTube to learn), Physical Development (to help babies to become aware of their own bodies through touching and movement) and Expressive Arts & Design (to develop the ability to sing, move rhythmically and be imaginative) .

Musical Aims:
Pulse (to feel the pulse through actions) and Musical Awareness (to expose children to different styles of music including some written in minor keys).

Activities for 'Little Johnny'
Babies: Tap your baby's head, nose, tummy, knee and toes to the pulse for each verse when relevant.

Toddlers: This activity is the same as for pre-schoolers only younger toddlers may need the help of an adult.

Pre-schoolers:
1. The children tap their head, nose, tummy, knee and toes to the pulse for each verse, as indicated in the video.
2. If you have a group of children, get them into a circle. Give one child the 'Johnny Puppet' (finger puppet of a boy). That child chooses a body part to tap with the puppet to make up a new verse and the other children follow with their imaginary puppets. You can also try having a girl puppet and ask the children to name her. E.g. Little Penny dances... etc.
