Unlike a few of my closest friends who didn't get to know their fathers or have good relationships ... I was truly blessed in that regard ... my Dad was a wonderful man and great role model! Two years before he passed and having recovered from a stroke a year or so earlier I accompanied him on what would be his final trip to his native Trinidad. I had only been to Trinidad once before as a small child (age 4) so this time I could really appreciate the Caribbean culture first hand ... especially the infectious calypso rhythms I grew up listening to on records. When we returned to DC I was inspired to write "My 'Fadda' Say" ... Happy Father's Day to all the dedicated Dads still with us and those beyond the pearly gates.
