Ramón Fabián Veloz

At eleven years old, Ramón Fabián Veloz began singing together with his grandparents, Ramón Veloz and Coralia Fernández, two of the greatest Cuban country music singers. In 1978, he began studying guitar with professors Efraín Amador and Miguel Bonachea at the National School of Art (ENA). In 1984, he enrolled at the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) where he graduated as Bachelor in Dramatic Arts under the specialty of performance. When he was 18 years old he made his first presentation as professional singer at the Cuban "Palmas y Cañas" television program, a long-standing program with a large TV audience. He continued his career as soloist and in 1990 he received the Girasol Award granted by Opina to Cuban country music interpreters for the popularity achieved throughout the country. Likewise, he participated in several national festivals and was finalist at the 1991 OTI Contest. That same year, Ramón Fabián founded his own group whose main objective was to disseminate a new country music concept resulting from a new sonority in this genre, so important for the Cuban cultural identity though always respecting its native roots. He has tirelessly performed, and always with a high public participation, at the most diverse and prestigious night centers in the country, specially the famous Tropicana Cabaret (both in Havana and Santiago de Cuba), Dos Gardenias, Las Cañitas at the Havana Libre Hotel, the Havana Golf Club, La Maison, the Meliá-Cohíba Hotel, and at the Café Cantante and Delirio Habanero, both at the National Theater. His international performance has been constant and successful. He has toured across Africa (singing together with Celina González, the "Country Music Queen"); he traveled throughout Spain as the main guest of the "Guajira Habanera" show; Japan acclaimed his charisma; and his tours across Latin America are frequent.
