The Fourth Berklee Global Jazz Summit: Global Report

The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) presented the fourth annual Berklee Global Jazz Summit: Global Report, which featured BGJI artistic director and UNESCO Artist for Peace Danilo Perez and several BGJI faculty members, including master saxophonist George Garzone, world renowned bassist John Patitucci, and highly acclaimed percussionist Roman Diaz. Together, they celebrated BGJI's humanitarian mission through music outreach on a global scale.

The concert presented music from recent BGJI trips to Panama, the Dominican Republic, Chile, and Valencia, Spain. The Berklee Global Jazz Summit was also a celebration of International Jazz Day (April 30), a UNESCO-designated day of recognition for jazz as a vehicle for peace, unity, and dialogue between people.

The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) is a performance program designed to foster creativity and musicianship through various musical disciplines, with pianist and composer Danilo Pérez as its artistic director. The BGJI provides a comprehensive contemporary music environment in which students are given opportunities to explore their creativity to the highest level possible, advance the power of music as a tool for the betterment of society, and connect musical creative thinking with the natural environment.

The concert featured the same ensembles that traveled to each country and presented a mixture of original music that will include works from Danilo Perez's latest release, Panama 500. The ensembles featured students from Israel, South Africa, Brazil and the U.S., among others. BGJI Program Director Marco Pignataro and drummer/percussionist Jorge Perez-Albela also performed.
