The Kitchenmaid's Aria from The Nightingale by Chris D. Burton

Lauren Mackenzie Rogers - Mezzo-Soprano
Kyle Naig - Piano

The Nightingale is my second opera. In this scene, the Kitchenmaid is relating to the Chancellor that she knows where the Nightingale lives and that her song is indeed as lovely as the Emperor has heard.

My poor sick mother lives down by the sea-shore in a cottage all alone. When I travel to see her, I travel through the green wood. Sometimes I may hear it, sometimes I hear the nightingale, Her song is indeed lovely, it brings tears to my eyes. It is as if my mother had kissed me. I cannot forget that song, surely the nightingale is the most beautiful in the world.
