La Grange - ZZ Top (1973) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 10, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
"La Grange" was a song by the rock group ZZ Top from their album "Tres Hombres". Considered to be almost a 'one-chord blues', it is one of their most successful songs. It was released in 1973 and received extensive radio play, rising to #41 in the Billboard Pop Singles list in 1974. The song refers to a bordello on the outskirts of La Grange, Texas (later notoriously known as the 'Chicken Ranch'). This brothel is also the subject of the Broadway play and film "The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas", the latter starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. "Tres Hombres" was the third album by ZZ Top, and marked the first of many times the band worked with engineer Terry Manning. It proved to be the group's commercial breakthrough, attracting a far larger fanbase. The name means 'Three Men' in Spanish, referring to the three members of the band. In 2003, the album was ranked number 498 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. ZZ Top is an American blues rock band, formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. Comprised of Billy Gibbons (lead vocals, guitar and harmonica), Dusty Hill (vocals, bass, and keyboards), and Frank Beard (drums and percussion), ZZ Top was ranked number 44 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. The trio's original lineup has been intact for over 40 years. The bandmates' image has been as unchanging and memorable as their music. Their signature style of dress and accessories are hard to miss. Gibbons and Hill often use the same synchronized dance moves while performing onstage, and with few exceptions appear in public wearing sunglasses. The pair favor wearing similar black clothing (usually biker leathers) and various headgear which often include cowboy hats, baseball caps, and bandanas. Gibbons and Hill, who appear as twin frontmen, wear chest-length untrimmed beards, although drummer Frank Beard has only a trimmed mustache. ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 2004. This channel is dedicated to the classic rock hits that have become part of the history of our culture.
