Kit Downes & Tom Challenger developing Vyamanikal, to become an Aldeburgh Festival Organ Crawl - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 15, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Developed through an Aldeburgh Residency, Kit Downes and Tom Challenger mix predetermined composition with free improvisation, inspired by the huge variety of organs and church acoustics in Suffolk – from the humble and small-scale to the revered Thamar organ of Framlingham Church, one of the spectacular instruments of its kind in Europe. Quirky, playful, both solemn and celebratory, this unusual combination produces an inventive sonic exploration.

During Aldeburgh Festival 2016, join us on a vintage bus tour of the organs and churches of Snape, Bromeswell and Framlingham as the duo present the premiere of their new work Vyamanikal, born out of their Open Space residency. The audience gathers at Snape Maltings and is taken by vintage bus to each church for a short recital, guided by Kit and Tom along the way.
