DESCRIPTION: Camp Merveilles is a world-class conference that combines local West African artists with visiting faculty to bring the amazing spirit of West African drumming and dance to the Front Range of Colorado. This is a unique opportunity for students of all levels, ages, and abilities to experience the teaching of master African dancers and musicians. Camp Merveilles also proudly hosts the work of Creative Strategies for Change, a local non-profit mobilizing Arts and Education for Social Justice. Camp Merveilles is the longest on-going program operating under the current non-profit of the Kissidugu Foundation. The Foundation's Mission is to create sustainable and equitable opportunities for individuals and communities to access and promote cultural arts through music, dance, education and civic dialogue. The Foundation intends to inspire people of all colors, cultures, and backgrounds to connect to themselves, to one another, and to their community. Building the Kissidugu School of Music, Dance & Education in Guinea West Africa is the Foundation's primary initiative. It will provide education opportunities, sustainable employment and access to information and resources that would otherwise be unavailable to the youth, artists and educators of Guinea.
