Playing Carter in my kid's room (Part 78) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 17, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
People frequently bring preconceptions to the music of Elliott Carter and kids' bedrooms. They believe that Carter's music is complex and difficult to appreciate; they believe that a child's room is a dangerous country where life is a constant tragic struggle. While both of these beliefs may have some grounding in reality, they are not always true, as Moritz Eggert has learned in his six-plus years as a father in the Munich National Institute of Music. He will perform each of Carter's Four Elegies for Solo Melodica for his son, film the experience in a variety of different moods reflecting the beauty and diversity of life in a playroom, and interview his son about the music he just heard
