Season 8 moves along with a jazz, funk, soul extravaganza with Boston based The Ken Clark Organ Trio. Ken Clark has made two previous trips to The Extended Play Sessions Fallout Shelter as keyboard player for Matt Stubbs and The Antiguas and as part of Michelle Willson's Evil Gal orchestra. Tonight he's playing band leader, not sideman, with his own Ken Clark Organ Trio featuring Mike Mele on guitar and Steve Chaggaris on drums. Both Mele and Chaggaris are among the top side players in New England. The music runs the gamut between funk, jazz, soul, gospel and some exotica lounge thrown in for flavor. Clark is a master of the Hammond B3...reminiscent of Jimmy Smith and Booker T. while at times channeling Isaac Hayes or Joey DeFrancesco and the music is as diverse. Mele harkens back to Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass or Tal Farlow...and then there's the next solo while Steve Chaggaris can hammer with anyone we've seen. That three cats can make this much happen is brilliant.
