DESCRIPTION:
One of the leading South African bands of the 1970s, with their own blend of Afro-rock. Their first album, "African Day", was released in 1971, with the musicians being: Dave Ornellas (vocals, guitar, percussion ), Mark "Spook" Kahn (guitar), Braam Malherbe (drums), Richard Johnson (bass), Keith Hutchinson (sax, flute, piano, organ) and Dave (session musician - percussion). In 1972 they released their 2nd album, "Africa She Too Can Cry". On this album the musicians were Dave Ornellas (lead vocals), Mark "Spook" Kahn (guitar), Braam Malherbe (drums), Les "Jet" Goode (bass), Julian "Ipi" Laxton (guitar), Alfred "Ali" Lerefolo (African drums, vocals), Billy "Knight" Mashigo (percussion, vocals), Audrey Motaung (vocals) and Pete Kubheka (vocals). In 1974 their 3rd and final album was released, “Live And Well”, with the musicians being: Dave Ornellas (vocals, guitar, percussion), Mark "Spook" Kahn (guitar), Brahm Malherbe (drums), Les "Jet" Goode (bass), Julian "Ipi" Laxton (guitar), Julian Bahula (African drums, vocals), Billy "Knight" Mashigo (percussion, vocals), Audrey Motaung (vocals) and Pete Kubheka (vocals, percussion).

In 1971 they supported The Troggs on their South African tour, and in 1972 the band moved to London to try and crack the big time, also changing their name to Joburg Hawk. Their greatest success was an appearance at the Reading Festival in 1973. Due to permit and internal problems, the band broke up and the individual members made their way back to South Africa.
