I was not raised near the sea as this song implies. Instead, I was raised on the shores of rolling pineapple fields on the plains of central O'ahu in a small plantation town called Whitmore Village nestled just outside the larger town of Wahiawa. The pineapple fields are long gone but the lasting memories of my childhood remain everlasting like the image of Mt. Ka'ala as depicted in the photos.
