Ever since she sang "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" in first grade glee club, Karen has been hooked on singing. A classically-trained soprano, Karen sang for years in local groups, belting out the high notes on classics from Handel and others. Her dream was to become an opera singer, but after college she got sidetracked as she began a career in journalism. Then, in her mid- twenties, her passion resurfaced. She trained in jazz and joined a rock band, and what has emerged in these last few years is a soulful, spiritual style that reflects her love for music, performing and connecting with the audience. She has performed in several cover bands, and performing and writing with songwriter/guitarist Derek Olivero, Karen was half of KanDy. Karen continues working on new orignal tunes on her own and with other talented musicians including the talented Bert Pallini and is a member of the Long Island Philharmonic Chorus. She loves being a teacher at Gymboree Play & Music as well as a reporter for Newsday's FutureCorps.
