B.F. Goodrich Silvertown Cord Orchestra
Vocal Refrain by The Silver-Masked Tenor
Victor 20892-B, 1927.

"Charmaine!" is one of the songs that really seems to capture the spirit of the 1920s. I especially like this version, with the somewhat affected singing voice of the Silver-Masked Tenor (Joseph M. White) perfect for the lyrics expressing love's yearning! The Silvertown Orchestra was a radio show sponsored by the B.F. Goodrich rubber company in the 1920s and '30s.

"Charmaine!" was the theme song of the movie "What Price Glory", released in the fall of 1926, with a synchronized musical score.

This is side B of the record, which is one of many from my family collection. The other side is "Roam on, My Little Gypsy Sweetheart." Different orchestras are featured on each side.

The Japanese plum trees put on quite a show this year, reaching full-bloom around Valentine's Day.

"I wonder why you keep me waiting?" Charmaine cries in vain.
"I wonder when bluebirds are mating, will you come back again?
I wonder if I keep on praying, will our dreams be the same?
I wonder if you ever think of me too."
I'm waiting, Charmaine, for you!
