The former steam-in-ice breaker, tugboat, and ammunition vessel SAMLAND was originally launched in the year 1907, in the Dresden-Uebigau Shipyard, under the name BÄR-CEMENT. It was ordered and delivered as "steam ship, universal working ship, suitable for ice breaking."
Until about 1945:
She tugs for cement mortars in Berlin-Rüdersdorf under the name BÄR-CEMENT. During this time, The ship has two grenade shells in the bulwark dress backbords, about 1-2 meters behind the bow ...
From about 1956:
Owner: Fa. Behrendt & Co - Diving & Recovery Company
Ship name BÄR-CEMENT changed to SAMLAND, in honor of the family Behrendt, who fled from Samland in East Prussia to Berlin during the war years.
From that point forward, she works as an ammunition vessel in the Berlin waters, Using a mountain crane with 4 electromagnets at the rear, to recover heavy bombs and ammunitions from the watery depths.
2008:
Transit journey from Plaue / Brandenburg a.d. Havel to Korneuburg in the former shipyard:
The SAMLAND travels 2,000 km in 22 days through harsh winter snow storms - without heating, without hot water - and well arrived ... a good omen for an old icebreaker!
2014:
After almost 7 years of reconstruction work, the SAMLAND is sailing again for the first time - from Kuchelauer Hafen to Korneuburg and back. She is updated with Water filter system, Extension of the bathroom with bath and electric toilet, and Expansion of the galley and guest cabin. New, enlarged steering column, saloon in larch wood, installation of the new diesel tanks for nearly 3,000 liters of fuel. Expansion of the owner's cabin, Installation of updated electronics (230 V, 24 V and 12 V, 5 KW sine wave converter, transponder class B, GPS, radio, computer)
This "Theme for the SAMLAND 1907" was written in honor of the SAMLAND's bold and magnificent history and endurance. The song is meant to reflect her early working days, her long days of reconstruction in the shipyard, and her adventurous journeys ongoing to this very day.
