Salomon Sulzer, a Viennese cantor collaborated with Franz Schubert in 1828 to write music for the newly built city temple. Sulzer, a gifted cantor and composer had a growing reputation in Vienna for interpreting Schubert lieder as well as the cantorial arts. He was part of a reform movement that wished to keep tradition but embraced modern life. Sulzer included musical practices of his time and added pieces of the Hebrew liturgy written by friends Franz Schubert, Ignaz von Seyfriend and Joseph Drechsler to the service in an ecumenical collaboration that's become largely unknown.
