Serenata de los Andes, the ensemble created and conducted by saxophonist, composer and musical director, Jean Pierre Magnet, will perform Serenata de los Andes: The Magic of Peru, on November 10th, 8 pm, at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. For the first time, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to enjoy the versatility and beauty of Andean music. Magnet offers a repertoire of songs with his own unique sound and a vibrant music execution, promising a sonic journey where the most beautiful landscapes of the Andes of Peru are shaped by the freshness and freedom of jazz improvisation.
Never before have 22 musicians united to present Andean music to New Yorkers, "Serenata de los Andes, the most transcendental project of my entire life, started in 2006 with the recording of the first studio CD and today, after 5 years of perfecting the show, it is ready to perform at Lincoln Center. I feel privileged to have this opportunity in my career and of taking the sounds of the Andes of Peru to such an emblematic auditorium," said Jean Pierre Magnet.
Serenata de los Andes is a blend of instruments perfectly arranged in sections reuniting several regional music styles of the highlands of Peru. Seven saxophones emulating the sounds of Mantaro Valley, five panpipes dialoguing with the wind of the highlands, six violins as a unique Andean symphony element, the melancholic Andean harp, the guitar and charango and the percussion, are the elements that confer each song's solidness and strength of the Peruvian Andes.
This ambitious project is supported by the best percussionist of Latin rhythms, Alex Acuña, recognized as "Most Valuable Player" by the National Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and three-time Grammy nominee, who joins with Magnet to show the world the richness of Andean music, brought to the highest standard never seen before.
Serenata de los Andes goes further beyond being a mere concert, aiming integration of ages, races, beliefs and traditions through music and embracing diversity. Thus, we find violinists from the National Conservatory of Music playing together with Gilder Castro, renowned Andean violinist in the strings section. Luciano Quispe, virtuoso of the Andean harp and, for many the best harp instrumentalist of Peru, is in addition a composer of beautiful "huaynos". The saxophone section gathers together young musicians from different music trends, and on the guitar, Oscar Cavero, is a musician of impressive versatility who has accompanied the greatest Peruvian artists.

This event is being presented by Absolutely Live Entertainment, the NYC-based music and event production company owned by industry veteran Danny Melnick. ALE has produced tours, festivals, concerts and special events worldwide since 2007. Upcoming events include the Freihofer's Saratoga Jazz Festival, which will celebrate its 35th anniversary on June 30 & July 1, 2012, the official "A Night in Treme" tour and, this fall, the reunion of Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker at Town Hall on Oct. 6, and the Wainwright/McGarrigle Family Christmas Show, "A Not So Silent Night," at Town Hall on Dec. 15.
