During the Lenten season, the assembly fasts from using the “A” word (Alleluia) so the church has given us a number of alternate texts that may be sung before the proclamation of the Gospel, like this one in Josh’s new Catholic Mass setting “Praise and honor to you Lord Jesus Christ”.

Co-written with Grae McCullough as well as bandmates Blake Powell and Christian Gaudet, this new Catholic Mass setting is at once both singable and truly beautiful. In addition to Josh Blakesley and his band, the choir singing in this video includes other Catholic singers and Catholic musicians Sarah Kroger, Dave Moore, Lauren Moore, Andrea Thomas, Adam Ubowski, Lori Ubowski, James Opdenhoff, Kristyn Opdenhoff, John Finch, Laurie Lopez and Kristin Fuselier.
Developed as an easy-to-sing Mass setting for contemporary liturgy, Mass of Restoration will appeal to anyone who enjoys music with a more modern feel, especially teens and young adults. Its simplicity also lends itself well to Life Teen groups, summer camps and other youth and young adult retreats.
With accompaniment parts for guitar and keyboard, the setting can be adapted to fit any music style, even for churches that use a simple guitar to accompany music at Catholic Mass. The MP3 album includes recordings of the Lenten Gospel Acclamations—the most complete set of any contemporary setting.
