Joseph Gatehau
Type:
Artist / Band / Musician
Genre:
R&B / Pop / Acoustic
Joseph Gatehau is an up-and-coming R&B/Pop Artist. Not only can this boy
sing he can dance too. His moves have been compared to one of the best in
Michael Jackson, however Joseph is by no means a Jackson impersonator. In
fact, he choreographs many of his own routines and showcases his own
street-style in all of his performances.
Not happy just singing and dancing, Joseph is also a talented guitarist and
songwriter well on his way to success. He has already impressed some of the
industry’s most influential people and is ready to give the rest of Australia
what they’ve been waiting for.
Joseph first won Australia’s heart during the 2006 series of Australian Idol. His
self-penned audition song ‘Pretty Girl’ saw him progress to the Top 12 and he
blew the judges away when he sang an adapted version of ‘Ladies In My Life’
by Troy Cassar-Daly. Mark Holden said of his performance:
“It’s one of those moments that’s up there with Anthony Callea’s ‘The Prayer.’
It was one of those fantastic moments that just brought everyone in the room
to tears.”
Australian Idol gave Joseph invaluable experience and exposed him to an
industry he knew he was destined to be a part of.
Hailing from Sadlier in Sydney’s South Western suburbs, Joseph grew up in a
modest single story home with his parents and six brothers and sisters.
Music is in his blood - his mother conducts a Tongan Catholic choir, in which
several of his siblings also participate while his grandfather, Lemisio Lolesio
Paunga, was the first to bring Tongan Music to Australia.
The oldest of seven children, Joseph has played acoustic guitar and sung
from the age of eight. However, as the family was not able to afford formal
music lessons until he was 14, he is essentially self-taught.
In 2007 Joseph was selected as an Ambassador for World Youth Day 2008.
This role has seen him perform at many World Youth Day events as well as
performing for the Pope and on the Youth Stage in July 2008.
Joseph is an ambassador for the RSPCA’s national ‘stop cruelty to animals’
campaign. He’ll be appearing in posters, TVC and a series of CSAs bringing
awareness to the link between behavioral problems in youths and cruelty to
animals
Joseph’s Debut Single ‘Move On’ is set for release in late June 2008 followed
by an album release in October 2008.
