The music on this album is born from John Two-Hawks' experience taking part in the Chief Big Foot Memorial Ride, which was 135 miles on a horse in the blinding cold of winter on the northern Great Plains, paying homage to the tragic series of events that led to the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. 'Horse Spirit' is about making a great sacrifice, and by doing so, tapping into a great strength lying dormant within that enables us to rise up and heal, not in spite of, but because of the pain we have endured and survived. This music tells a story of loss, sorrow, courage, healing and triumph, challenging us to stop running from the place of our hurt, but to run to it, and find our power there.
