Maureen Forrester sings "The Confession Stone" (1968) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 15, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
From a 1968 recital, here is Maureen Forrester and John Newmark performing "The Confession Stone" (Songs of Mary) -- a cycle of eight songs by Robert Fleming to texts by Owen Dobson. This cycle became one of the works most frequently performed by Maureen Forrester. It is said that John Newmark was the person who gave Fleming the idea of composing these poems for Forrester.

Sadly, the very end of the final song is missing from this recording. (There is a link below to a complete performance given at the Montreal Expo in 1967.)

I. O my boy: Jesus my first and only son 0:00
II. Don't pay attention to the old men in the temple 2:02
III. Jesus, did you know that Lazarus is back? 2:51
IV. There's a supper in Jerusalem tonight... 4:29
V. Cold and icy in my bed... 6:12
VI. Bring me those needles, Martha... 9:25
VII. Everything is black, air, water, sun, moon... 11:30
VIII. O my boy: Jesus my first and only son 15:45
