Klezmer Showcase | Columbus Symphony 2016-17 Season - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 28, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
This intriguing, genre-bending program celebrates the origins and influences of klezmer music, the lively and soulful dance tunes played by Jewish folk musicians as they traveled throughout Eastern Europe during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. If you’ve seen the classical musical Fiddler on the Roof, you already know what it sounds like. Selections for this concert range from folk-flavored classical pieces by Liszt and Johann Strauss to recent works with similarly mixed roots.

Strauss, Jr.: Csárdás from Ritter Pásmán
Haddad: Manarah
Marhulets: Concerto for Klezmer Clarinet
Golijov: K’vakarat from The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind
Arr.Krakauer: Der Gasn Nign
Arr.Krakauer: Synagogue Wail for clarinet solo
Arr.Krakauer: Der Heyser Bulgar
