Montreal saxophonist and composer Joel Miller is reunited with American pianist Geoffrey Keezer at Toronto's preeminent Jazz venue, The Rex. Keezer and Miller are joined by Greg Ritchie on drums, and Miller's longtime collaborator Fraser Hollins on bass. Ritchie and Hollins are the other two contributors to 'Swim', Miller's recent and lauded solo album.
Swim is as much a vehicle for Miller and Keezer's teeming virtuosity, as it is a unique and soul searching oeuvre of striking artistry on the part of the bandleader Miller. Indeed Geoffrey Keezer is completely in his element here; the intricate, yet disarming facets of Miller's work providing him a rigorous and electrified structure to launch from.
Miller and his band mates also open up in this performance, bassist Fraser Hollins fully comfortable with the many twists and turns, and Greg Ritchie in lock step with a loose, exuberant touch that fuels the vibe.
