Joao Lyra, musician, arranger, composer Joao Lyra Pinheiro de Andrade Lyra was born in Sao Jose da Lage, Alagoas, Brasil. Having inherited his love for music from his mother who played cavaquinho, he started to play instruments at his early age. He chose the guitar as his instrument influenced by his older brother. In Maceio, the capital of Alagoas, he participated in various groups of Brazilian Popular Music(MPB), Rock while he played Choro and Bossa Nova. He moved to Recife in 1978 to study in the Federal University of Pernambuco and at the same time he studied classic guitar with Professer Jose Carrion. Later He taught at Pernambuco Conservatory of Music for 9 years. He took part in Orquestra de Cordas Dedilladas de Pernambuco as a musician, arranger and composer. He participated in more than 1000 recordings of local artists. In Recife, Having been invited by Mauricio Carrillo he took part in the Camerata Carioca and played in concerts in Rio de Janeiro and U.S.A together with Joel Nascimento, Luís Otavio, Henrique Cazes, Paulo Sérgio Santos and Beto Cazes. He toured around Japan with Elizeth Cardoso, Zimbo Trio and Choro Carioca. In U.S.A he participated in the live recording of Joel Nascimento and Sexteto Brasileiro. During 6 years he traveled with Sivuca around Europa and recorded 2 CDs with the artist including his own compositions. In 1993 Joao moved to Rio de Janeiro where he takes a part in the band of Nana Caymmi and participated in the recordings of various important artists of Brazilian music; Paulo Jobim,Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Ivan Lins, Elba Ramalho, Zé Ramalho, Aguinaldo Rayol, Erasmo Carlos, Emílio Santiago, Alceu Valença, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Angela Maria, Alcione, Miltinho,Lúcia Menezes,Olivia Byington Simoni,Maria Betânia,José Renato,Martinho da Vila,Zeca Pagodinho,Danilo Caimmy,Dory Caimmy,Joana, Raimundo Fagner, Miucha,Olivia Hime,Francis Hime,Paulo Cezar Pinheiro,Moacy Luz,MPB4,João Bosco,João Nogueira,Luciana Rabello,Roberto Silva,Luis Carlos da Vila,Cristina Buarque,Monarco,Jamelão,Hebe Camargo.Tania Alves,Tim Maia,Ney Matogrosso,Milton Nascimento,Fafá de Belem,Sandra de Sá,Aldir Blanc,Leila Pinheiro,Leny Andrade,Luiz Melodia,Zélia Duncan,Rosa Passos,Zizi Possi,Edu Lobo,Dominguinhos,Owaldinho. Recently he plays in the instrumental duo with Cristovao Bastos.
