"Music is a art form. A culture all it’s own. It’s an escape from troubles, a form of self expression and often a reality check. To J-King it’s much more. It’s life!"

Born and raised in Fontana, California by two loving adoptive parents, Larry and Chris Woodford and with the love and support of his real father, three sisters and a brother, J-King, also known as Jeff King, took music and made it his life. “With my music I want to take care of my family and true friends whom have been there from the start.” From b-boying to graffiti, J-King has tried them all. Although graffiti often lead to trouble with the law. He never strayed to for from the hip hop scene. In Jr. High he decided to make a change. That change was to take some poetry classes. While taking these courses he discovered his writings read a lot like hip hop. Perfecting it was his next step. Becoming a battle m. c. takes great skill and quick wits which is exactly what he has and what he did over the next few years. With inspirations such as Atmosphere , J-5 Break Beats, and the entire underground hip hop movement, J-King decided song writing was something he could do.

In 2005, not too long after his first song was written, he was booked to perform his first show in the city that never sleeps. Las Vegas’s Blue Room. From there it’s been a roller coaster ride ever since. The highlight of this ride came in 2006 when he was selected to compete for slot on the Vans Warped Tour. He became the only hip hop artist to advance to the finals in a band dominated competition. With a heavy fan base in tow, the battle was held at the world famous House of Blues in Anahiem, California where he placed a respectable 3rd place. The only hip hop artist to ever do so. The stage is his platform. The microphone is his weapon.

With more than 200 shows in less than 2 years now under his belt and the addition of D.J. Souless hailing from Glendale, California. J-King’s new stage show has a flavor all it’s own. From performing in front of zero to now selling out where ever he sets foot. It seems like yesterday he was Jr. High School writing poetry. Some of the stages he has been on are House of Blues both in L.A. and Las Vegas, Whiskey-a-go-go, Knitting Factory, Key Club in Hollywood, and numerous others up and down the west coast. Sharing the stage with artist such as Cypress Hill, The Psycho Realm, The Pricks, 1AD7, The Brat, and the undergrounds most beloved DGAF, which include former members of the Kottonmouth Kings. As well as a handful of local and talented artist also on the come up. With the help of Steve Diaz, a street team, and sponsors like Hostility Clothing. Cool Cat Tattoo, Folsom Clothing, Zodiac, Society’s Realist, Irish Mafia Inc. and now Royal Blunts in his corner J-King expects 2010 to be one of the best years yet with more to follow right behind it!
