VIDEO/SONG DESCRIPTION

People are disconnected, bombarded by the media and influenced to the point of personality destruction.
That is sadly the modern world that we live in.
I wrote this song about 7 years ago as these feelings and thoughts were bothering me, but I think it is more relevant today so it was time for a new release.
The song is basically saying how we are all in a state of hibernation and are unaware of what is going on in the real world around us.
We get all our information from a screen, be it TV, mobile phones, computers or mobile tablets, and it has become a problem to decipher fact from fiction.
we get a rush from an the sound of an email arriving or how many likes we get on facebook, or how many followers we have on twitter.
Its like some kind of self absorbed internet addiction.
Our vocabulary is becoming more like online messaging speak.
As a society we have lost our way and exist in our own little bubbles where we can't tell the real person from their social media profile.
We are an idea of our dream selves rather than simply existing, images dictate our own person, creating unattainable needs, desires and aspirations.
We are so disconnected from each other, relying more and more on technology and ourselves.
Masturbation is by definition a solitary act and completely from a place of self, and I found this taboo word to be the perfect metaphor for describing how people are so wrapped up in their own self.
Even when we are in a relationship the only time some people interact is when they go to bed, like we have become walking, talking (sex) toys to be picked up and discarded when finished with.
And I feel it is affecting every aspect of society such as the music industry.
I wrote, recorded, played every instrument, the vocals and will release this song all on my own from one room, with no interaction with another person,
Even if you are in a band and recording a song you don't need to be in the studio at the same time, you can record your part and send it to other members so they can add their parts.
The act of creation is now an act of logic, since when did creation become so linear?
Technology is an incredible thing but it has also shown us that human interaction and relations are Important.

KEVIN MCGOWAN is a Scottish singer songwriter born in Stirling, Scotland,
His music has been described as distorted folk, for distorted folk!
with influences including the beatles, david bowie, pink floyd

McGowan is a multi instrumentalist and plays and records all parts on his songs,
He is releasing his first single on his own label "imagine & believe records",
His song "Hibernation Masturbation" will be released on the 27th October 2016,
... Not a typo just an analysis of the isolated world that we live in and how technology and the media have influenced our lives.

He started his performing life as a street-busker before co forming “Coloured Dreams”,
The band gained cult status in the psychedelic underground scene in his hometown and toured Europe many times before splitting up.
Kevin then launched his solo career, being signed twice to indie labels, playing all over the world, from the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool to the IPO festival in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

McGowan now has his own label and studio "imagine and believe records", “Imagine and Believe Studios” in gozo, malta and is getting more into the production side of music, as well as performing in three different musical set-ups whilst writing and recording his new album. He recently co wrote and produced the album "peace v war" with Karel fialka electro music pioneer.
