NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (A&M 1458) Out of Los Angeles, this one shot single with A&M for Leola Jiles was a welcome reunion for her and the hit-making team of producer, Dick Glasser and arranger, Ernie Freeman. They had worked together several years earlier recording some marvelous solo sides for Warner Bros.
In 1963 & 1964, Ms. Jiles had been the lead singer of the girl group, The LOVEJOYS with producers, Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller on their Red Bird records subsidiary, Tiger records. In 1965 the ladies changed their name to The APOLLAS and signed with Loma records, a Warner Bros. subsidiary. The group recorded a series of marvelously produced singles which although they received television and radio promotion, hit status eluded The Apollas. (Original copies of these 45's have now become quite collectable among American Soul music collectors).
In January of 1967, during a break from touring with The Monkees, the Apollas producer, Dick Glasser, took Leola into the studio alone to record four songs. Two of which, 'Keep It Coming' and 'Why Was I Born?' were issued as a single which although quite good, failed to chart. The two unreleased tracks were 'Insult To injury' and a soul-stirring epic entitled, 'I've Got So Used To Loving You'.
After leaving The Apollas Leola recorded two singles with the group Love Salvation entitled 'Carry Me'/'Spread A Little Love' and 'I Believe'/'Cee Cee Rider', both issued on Bell Records in 1972. Her final solo project was this A&M release, 'To Make A Long Story Short'/'He Called Me Baby'.
Leola now resides in Pittsburg, CA where she has lived for many years.
