The Unwanted - Out on the Western Plain

Here is an outstanding version of Lead Belly's 'Out on the Western Plain'.

I don't own this and I am unconnected with the artists but I wanted to share it because I saw this performance on Irish TV recently and I was very taken with it. I felt that anyone like myself who likes the original song, as well as Rory Gallagher's famous versions of it would appreciate the musicianship and craft which went into in this version.

This six minute performance is a two-song medley consisting of 'Out on the Western Plain' followed by a traditional tune, (probably) of Irish origin called 'Jenny's Welcome to Charlie', although the latter is played in a slightly more appalachian style in keeping with the overall theme.

It was recorded for traditional Irish music program "Geantraí" in The Harp Tavern in Sligo for Irish TV station TG4.

The Unwanted are a trio consisting of Cathy Jordan, Seamie O'Dowd and Rick Epping and their music draws influence from musical tradition and culture from both side of the atlantic: To quote their website: "the work is inspired by and reflects the commonality of tradition between Ireland, Appalachia and beyond".
