Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds -- The New Generation is a 2012 concept album by Jeff Wayne and is a follow-up to his 1978 concept album which retells the story of The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells.
There are you will be pleased to know similarities between the two versions.
Narration tells the story - the music is a blend of progressive rock and string orchestra.
This release came after a successful live tour of the UK and Europe in 2011.

Main differences :
The beat is more modern & rhythmically enhanced, more meatier. There is a greater range of keyboards and electronic effects. But for those of you that want the 'Thin Lizzy meats Mike Oldfield' guitar work - you are still will catered for.
Importantly to note is that the majority of the iconic sound effects from the original album are still here and those martians still give you the same tingling sensation as they ravish the lands.
The whole album sounds fresh and the added effects add a new dimension.
