Be Your Own Friend "Live" at Kulak's Woodshed - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 23, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
This is a song I wrote back in 1982, regarding a subject not often talked about, and maybe not even much thought about: being one's own friend. I wrote it back then because, at the time, I was newly married and my husband had to go out of town for a few weeks and it was the first time I ever had to "live alone" for any amount of time. I never felt so alone in my whole life. But the experience made me realize something very important: that I really wasn't alone. And that my own "friendship" with myself was a very valuable thing.
Anyhow, when my husband came home, I had a new song to play for him and a new gift for the world because, ever since then, I have shared this idea of "friendship with oneself" with audiences in many corners of the world---with each performance of this song. So, again, I give it to all who could use a friend...

God bless,

"BE YOUR OWN FRIEND"
written and performed by, Jeannie Willets

Whenever you're lonely,
You can't find a friend,
You're thinkin' it's only
You again

Well, never you mind,
Don't waste your time,
Believe in yourself,
Hey, it ain't no crime

To be your own friend,
To be your own friend.

Well, I have been lonely
And I've been confused,
Thinkin' there's so much
To lose

But then I found out
Who I left out,
In times of despair,
I'm always around,

So be your own friend,
Oh, be your own friend.

Oh, I know it's hard sometimes,
Without a hand to hold,
No, it's not always easy
To get along, I'm told,
But you hold the power
And only you know what's best for you,
You know what's true,
Acknowledge the friend in you

So don't you be lonely,
No, don't you be sad,
'Cause you've still got
What you've always had,

Someone who's strong,
Someone who cares,
When everyone's gone,
There's always one there....

If you be your own friend,
Just be your own friend.

Mmhmm...be your own friend.
