John Doan Homage to Fernando Sor No 5 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 10, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
John Doan performs live from his "Homage to Fernando Sor" CD with backstories to the meaning of the music of Sor and his own interpretation of the music through his own original compositions.

In this segment John Doan explains the conflicted optimism of one of Sor's pieces and expands upon this with a story of how Sor, after having lived in a monastery from ages 11-17 may have been shy when it came to meeting a girl of interest for the first time. The music John Doan composed tells the moment-by-moment emotional experiece of anticipating the girl approaching; his deliberating of what to say, her passing by while Fernando finds himself at a loss of words; her then disappearing into a crowd of passers-by; his imagining what it could have been like if he had been able to strike up a conversation; to his eventual plans to get up the nerve to approach her the next day. All of this comes to life in a way we all can relate with. Poignant and real, it takes us there.
