DESCRIPTION:
Nick Pynn is unique. He is an amazingly different multi-instrumentalist and musical composer who has been likened to a "One Man Orchestra". He has won awards for his performances at the Edinburgh and Brighton Festivals. He plays many stringed instruments like guitars, violin, mandocello, dulcimer, cocolele (he is the inventor of this one!) and combines their sounds electronically with unusual sonics eminating from different sources including, here, glasses of water (fondly named The Chrystal Sisters!), a pack of cards, people's voices and many more. His stage show has loops and sampling effects and his "footwork" amongst a myriad of pedals and wires (which include a bass piano) has to be seen to be appreciated! This is an edited-down 10 minute video of his spellbinding and amusing performance at this year's Adur Festival at The Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham By Sea, West Sussex (www.ropetacklearts.co.uk) on Wednesday 10th June. He combined his original music in an evening entitled "Music to your ears" which he shared with Professor Cornelius (Corné) Kros, a leading world authority on the human senses particularly on the workings of the human ear, who gave us a fascinating talk on the subject and the stage was littered with many demonstrations and effects including a fascinating backdrop which showed the sonic visual effect of every instrument played. Nick is continually recording new material, touring the world solo and with fellow musicians and performing gigs solo and collaborative here in Brighton at the café venue he co-runs with Jane Bom-Bane.
