She posses style, grace and incredible wit and with the stage name "Delishus" an apt voice and necessary ability to hold her own. At four years old the world was already her stage as Kyann Annika Knight displayed what was to be her calling. Endorsed by Liguanea Preparatory School's choir, barbecues and concerts were graced with her talent at that young age. Singing is what she kept closest to her heart. She continued along her melodic path as she entered St. Andrew High School For Girls, and used music as the passion to fuel her adolescent years. Any competition that inclined Ms. Knight to use her voice was a "breeze", now the real world was awaiting.
First hand experiences are very few and far apart, but Kyann was blessed with the opportunity and duly rose to the occasion. At the age of 16 "it was a simple hook for a tune called Mary Jane" she says, which was written by a group of her friends that began her quest for more of the music world. Her confidence soared and catapulted her to join the band MCube as their lead singer with her first official performance at the village café. Through this medium Ms. Knight managed to have audience with the manager of "Big Yard Studio" – Kingy. The very next day she beheld the presence of the profound producer and songwriter Tony Kelly. Kyann did deliver, her well received treat prompted an immediate recording session yet again for the hook she used to wow Kelly "si dung pan it". Her second day which was the very next, she met the likes of Tanya Stephens and Delly Ranks who all worked on the Katana Rhythm project. From here, Kyann was introduced to Robert Livingston (Co-owner of Big Yard Studio and Manager for Shaggy) and Shaggy who immediately recognized the divas talent. Her list of association continued to grow as she continued to spend time and meet the faces of those who fueled the music fraternity. She also began voicing through the medium of Big Yard for the well-known Burch, Shane Brown And Natty.
Too Good to be true some may say, but Kyann too had her glitches as she experienced a down cast look upon for the name Delishus, her true support was shown through Shane Brown, Tony Kelly and Robert Livingston. " They endorsed the name and to this day still have my back," she says. Delishus however embraced her name and niche when she received a hearty welcome to the buzz and reassurance from maternal heads such as Lady Saw, Cecile and Macka Diamond who allowed her the opportunity to experience the greatest 20 minutes of her life- a spot on the Macka Diamond's Mother's Day show, from which she got great reviews.
Through the amazing moments Kyann tried to balance school as even more amazing moments were left to come. Her meeting with producer Snow Cone had its right timing and her first collaboration with Cobra "Put it back" fell right in place. Another Collaboration called Rough sex this time with Vybes Kartel was signed sealed and stamped with Burch's signature. While in New York vacationing from school, she used the time to build on her writing skills, while Snow Cone sought to bring out the DJ in the songstress. She also spent time working with Danny Champagne on the Vip project. Back to Jamaica and not a moment too soon her networking opportunities fostered yet another collaboration with Kiprich where they flooded the air waves with the songs Telephone Ting, The Letter and Joe Grind.
While the heavens shine upon their Delishus blessing, Kyann was thrusted to sink or swim facing a crowd who makes or breaks artists' dreams – the thousands at Jamaica's Reggae Sumfest year's "2005" & "2007" saw and they approved, in accordance, at the "greatest one night show on earth - STING" yet another dancehall set was deemed born. Today Kyann has two videos receiving raving reviews Joe Grind (her Collaboration with Kiprich) and her very own "Nuh push it Gal."
Ms. Knight has held her own and has come a far way with so much further to go. She exemplifies "dreams do come true." The levelheaded songstress and DJ- with- an -attitude signs out by saying " to the beginners - stay focused, to the non believers – thank you for making me believe in my self and to the veterans - see you at the top!"
