With one member coming from Seattle and the other representing Philadepia, both forces came together to create the "unstoppable" hip hop group known as I-Gang.
The group was formed back in 2001 when members A1 and Cash Da Hustler met on the streets of Bremerton. Cash Da Hustler said he invited A1 over to record a track after knowing him for a while, and after the first track was recorded they put their material together and since then have been doing what very few people have yet to do, and that is to represent "The 3-6-0".
"A lot of people think hip hop's dead," said Cash Da Hustler. "But we're going to bring it back to life."
Both memebers having been rapping most of their lives and were influenced by other hip hop artist such as Run D.M.C and LL Cool J before the age of two. Even though the group has been putting out street
albums for the last few years, their first official album called "Welcome to Brem City" will be out by September at the latest.
A1 said the album was supposed to be released last month but when they got so much new material from people who have a production deal with G-Unit Records and Kuddie Mak who is well-known in Seattle, they had to revise what they wanted to put on the album. The band is coming out with an EP this week
with about five or six songs on it that fans can listen to until the album comes out and they plan on shooting a music video for their single off of called "Stylin on You" off of "Welcome to Brem City" by next month.
Although I-Gang has been having success in the rap game, they said five or 10 years from now they don't see themselves doing rap. A1 said he sees I-Gang focusing more on an executive point of view by concentrating on building up their record label.
"I love music but I want to put other new artist on," said A1. "The rap game is overcrowded right now and I want to be behind the scenes."
Both memebers said that they struggled growing up in the projects and wanted to let all rappers out there know to never forget where they came from 'cause you might need to go back. They both said that they show love to the hood and everyone going through the struggle and believe it's important to give something back to the community you come from.
"We want to bring a major act out here." said A1. "We're gonna try to pull together a charity event and maybe build a playground or something."http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNRxSfdV7uk
The group is proud to represent Bremerton, but said they don't get as much support as they give. They said everyone should be proud of where they're from and do the best the to represent their city. A1 said they get critizied for represening Bremerton when they're not even originally from here, and they find it disappointing that it took someone from somewhere else to come here and show the town some love.
"We get more love in Seattle and other cities than we get in Bremerton," said Cash Da Hustler. "Support local artists."
I-Gang wanted to let kids know that they love rap but at the same time wanted to send the message that it is important to stay in school. They said there's more to life then just what you see around you and selling drugs a going to jail is not the thing to do.
"We want kids to stay in school,"said A1. "We have enough rappers out there and we need more doctors, politicians, and laywers. .
