THIEF
(Written and composed by Uday Benegal)

Lying, staring at these paper walls
A house of cards is bound to fall
In gale force winds, no survivors remain

Cheating the inevitability
For a moment of reprieve
When the river's in spate it won't help you to swim

I stood alone, I was covered in light
Shattered, afraid and divided in two
You stole away like a thief in the night
And left me with nothing to prove

Hurting for that day of innocence
When we dreamt in present tense
Embracing uncertainty, drowning history

Beating back the hordes at every turn
Still unable to discern
Friend from adversary, truth from fantasy

I stood alone, I was covered in light
Broken and free and reminded of you
You stole away like a thief in the night
And left me with nothing to lose
I felt played for a fool

I stood alone, I was covered in light
Broken and free and reminded of you
You stole away like a thief in the night
You stole away like a thief in the night

We were told it would never fall
It was safe inside
We believed them
We weren’t prepared to be taken from the skies
